A South Bay church has started a petition to prevent a strip club from opening in the neighborhood.
Members of Calvary Chapel South Bay have collected more than 3,000 signatures to prevent the Bay Girls Gentleman's Club from opening its doors, according to KTLA-TV.
The full-nudity club is set to open next week at Hamilton Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard in Gardena, just blocks from the church.
IIt is the second strip club near the place of worship. An existing club called Spearmint Rhino is less than a mile from Bay Girls.
The congregation has taken issue with the morality of having a strip club so close to a church, KTLA reported. The petition was given to Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.
He has asked the L.A. County Department of Regional Planning to look into an ordinance dealing with the proximity of adult entertainment venues to family-oriented places such as churches and schools.
Currently, clubs must be at least 500 feet from churches, schools and public parks and 250 feet from homes, KTLA reported.
There are no restrictions on the concentration of strip clubs in an area.
